Porsche 918 Spyder shatters Nurburgring record

Those who know something about the Nurburgring circuit know there are quite a few cars in history who did a lap of the track ( 20.6 km ) in seven minutes . Of these, most are racing, so the news that an approved street car, as the Porsche 918 Spyder is, traveled the 20.6 km in 6 minutes and 57 seconds is even more spectacular.

Wolfgang Hatz , Board Member Management Porsche AG , said that " We have promised many things with the 918 Spyder , including to refine driving pleasure , efficiency and performance . We have kept our word . "

Well, I can tell you from experience that Mr. Hatz lied a little. 918 Spyder offers no driving pleasure and efficiency while forced to do a lap of the Nurburgring in 6 minutes and 57 seconds. At that speed , the only thing this Porsche will offer a man is normally a very palpable sickness while challenging every corner at astronomical speeds . But this feeling of vomiting is accompanied by the satisfaction that it is happening in the fastest road car on this circuit .

To put some things in perspective , the 918 Spyder beat the previous record by 14 seconds and that means a lot to a circuit that has always been the toughest test for super-cars. As an example , previous records were obtained in a Gumpert Apollo Sport ( 7 min 11 seconds ) , Dodge Viper ACR ( 7 min 12 seconds ) and Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package ( 7 min and 14 seconds) .

Porsche 918 Spyder has a 4.6-liter V8, 605 horsepower gasoline engine , which goes up to 9,150 rpm , coupled with two electric motors . In total , the power reaches 887 hp . 0-100 km / h in 2.8 seconds happens .

It is truly an impressive car that will most likely set the bar higher for its competitors.
